Projects

The following are the funded and un-funded academic projects performed since 2014.

Pollution Prevention (P2) Project

Funded by: United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA)

Jan 2020

Performed assessments with pollution prevention projects with food and manufacturing industries. Completed waste management assessments alongside local schools and hospitals near Toledo, Ohio, USA.

Ohio Indoor Radon Project

Funded by: Ohio Department of Health (ODH)

June 2020

Developed Ohio radon databases for homes, testers, and mitigation systems for quarterly reports. Examined the efficiency of different radon mitigation systems and developed maps using ArcGIS.

Color removal of dye and sugar wastewater using low-cost adsorbents

May 2018

Adsorption and micro-filtration are performed on samples with low-cost adsorbents. Estimated non-purgeable organic carbon using Shimadzu TOC-L analyzer after the treatment.

Enhanced phosphorous removal to reduce algal blooms in Lake Erie

May 2017

Proposed a theoretical design to reduce phosphorous deposits into Lake Erie from farms. This project is the combination of wetland and adsorption to gravel- zeolite random mix filter beds.

Design of Eco-friendly indoor air purifier to reduce concentrations of CO2, SO2 & NO2

May 2016

Designed and manufactured an Eco-friendly indoor air purifier by using natural absorbents. Observed pollutant removal with an efficiency of 80% while using finely graded absorbents.

Using cotton as a fiber in the concrete

Feb 2015

Tested concrete by adding certain proportions of cotton to M20 grade concrete. Observed enhancement in tensile strength and changes in mechanical properties of concrete.

Maida as a replacement for cement in concrete

July 2014

Replaced the desired percentage of cement by Maida as a substitute for M20 grade cement. Observed changes in compressive strength, initial setting time, and water-absorbing capacity.

Physical and chemical analysis of Musi River, Hyderabad, India

Jan 2014

Analyzed physical and chemical properties at two different points to identify the level of pollution. Compared pH- value, conductivity, dissolved salts, hardness, and other properties of river water.
